SHAPEN – From a mother’s vision to a global barefoot shoe brand. The story of Shapen begins in 2012 when the founder became a mother and searched for the best first shoes for her child. She discovered barefoot shoes – a concept that not only helped her daughter walk naturally, but also improved her own health. With flat feet, scoliosis and foot problems since childhood, she had learned to live with pain, until she tried barefoot shoes at the age of 32 – and experienced a significant improvement.
In 2017, she started developing her own models, as there was a lack of comfortable and stylish barefoot shoes. The first production was a challenge, but the vision of local production and high quality drove her forward. In 2019, SHAPEN's first online store was launched, and in 2021 a physical store was opened in Bratislava. When local production was not up to par, production was moved to Portugal and Poland - known for their high quality.
SHAPEN quickly became popular. A crowdfunding campaign for new models broke a Slovak record with 96,000 euros in pre-orders collected. This grew both the team and the range. In 2024, a new online store and a brand renewal were launched that bring SHAPEN even closer to international fashion trends. Today, SHAPEN's barefoot shoes are sold in over 75 countries. The vision is the same as from the beginning: to show that barefoot shoes can be both elegant, modern and health-promoting. With its roots in a mother's care, SHAPEN is today an inspiration for anyone who wants to walk naturally - in style.
