KOEL was founded in 2006 in the Netherlands as the children’s footwear brand KOEL4KIDS, with a strong focus on quality, flexibility, and thoughtful design. After establishing a solid presence in the Dutch and Belgian markets, the brand was acquired by footwear manufacturer Liago in 2016, and all shoes have since been designed and produced exclusively in Portugal. In 2018, KOEL4KIDS shifted its full focus to barefoot shoes that support children’s natural foot development. A rebranding in 2021 saw KOEL become the parent brand for footwear for babies, children, women, and men, maintaining the same high standards of fit and quality.
