TENCEL™ is a soft textile material made from wood-based fibres, often from wood cellulose, for example. It feels comfortable against the skin and helps manage moisture. Pigskin leather works well in shoes because it is durable, supple and helps the shoe breathe thanks to the leather’s natural pore structure.

Feel on the foot:

Heidi, who has a foot length of 24.5 cm, wide feet and high foot volume, tries size 39 and finds that the Moonwalker feels good on the foot straight away. The shoe does not pinch anywhere and the length feels right. The toe box is roomy, while the lacing can be adjusted comfortably even for her high foot volume. She needs to tighten the shoe a little more than usual to reduce heel slippage, but the fit still works well. The sole feels softer and more cushioned than a thin barefoot shoe, which makes this model interesting for anyone who wants a foot-shaped shoe but not a super-thin sole. The leather shoe feels slightly stiff at first, but is expected to soften with use.

Hanna, who has a foot length of 24.5 cm, normal-width feet and medium foot volume, also tries size 39. She thinks the fit feels good, but immediately notices that the sole is thicker and stiffer than she personally prefers as an experienced barefoot-shoe user. The toe box is wide and gives the toes plenty of space from side to side, but it does not have much height volume. For that reason, the model may be less suitable if you have high-volume toes or toes that point more upwards. The opening over the instep feels a little large for Hanna’s foot, so she needs to lace the shoe firmly to avoid slippage. The heel cushion, however, helps keep the heel better in place. Without the soft insole, the shoe feels more in line with the type of ground contact Hanna usually appreciates.

Victoria, who has a foot length of 25.0 cm, wide feet and low foot volume, tries size 40 and finds that the shoe feels just right straight away – neither too big nor too small. It does not pinch anywhere, but wraps around the foot in a comfortable and stable way. Despite her low foot volume, she can tighten the laces so that the shoe sits well over the foot. She does not experience the same heel slippage as Heidi and Hanna, because her instep fills out the opening better. The sole feels soft and lightly cushioned, giving a comfortable landing when walking.

Summary: Skinners Moonwalker seems to suit different foot volumes, as well as normal-width to wide foot shapes. It is a good option if you want a smarter city shoe with a wide toe box, a softer, more cushioned feel underfoot and more space in the forefoot than in conventional, narrower shoes. The fit is adjustable, but people with a narrower instep may find that the opening feels a little large. If you are used to very thin and flexible barefoot shoes, the sole may feel unusually thick, while it can be a good choice if you are new to barefoot shoes and want a little more cushioning underfoot.

Care instructions:

Clean the shoes with a soft brush or a damp cloth. Wipe them dry thoroughly afterwards. To extend the life of the shoes and protect them from dirt and moisture, we recommend regularly using a waterproofing spray, such as Collonil Organic Cover.
