It all started in 2026 in Ostrobothnia, Finland. After many years in the footwear industry through our store Widetoes, we realized that one particular type of shoe was missing from the market. We asked our suppliers for it, but no one managed to create it: a shoe with a truly wide toe box and a flexible sole, yet with significantly more cushioning than a traditional barefoot shoe.
We saw that the demand was enormous – especially among people who spend a lot of time walking on hard surfaces, want more comfort in every step, or simply have not yet adapted their feet to fully minimalist barefoot shoes.
Since nobody else was making it, we decided to create it ourselves. The result was BREJD.
The name comes from an Ostrobothnian dialect word meaning “wide”, perfectly capturing our philosophy: shoes with room for the whole foot. We believe that shoes should be shaped after the foot, not the other way around. With an anatomical, wide toe box, all toes have the freedom to spread naturally without being squeezed together.
To give you maximum flexibility, we developed a unique concept. Our first models are built on a flexible barefoot sole and always come with two different insoles:
A thinner insole: For those who want the authentic, ground-connected barefoot feeling.
A cushioned insole: For those who want extra comfort, shock absorption, and support.
All BREJD models are handcrafted in Portugal from soft, high-quality leather, making them as comfortable as they are stylish.
With BREJD, you decide how you move.
